Currently based in Boston, I report on stories with statewide interest and relevancy. Over the summer, I was part of a team investigating exorbitant spending by UMass Chan Medical School in a behind-the-scenes legal fight the university waged against its hospital partner. In recent months, I have also explored the work of Massachusetts’ budding police oversight board, the POST Commission, and their efforts to bring greater accountability to hundreds of local and state police departments. My reporting has delved into warrantless surveillance by the State Police, the challenges facing the cranberry industry as our climate warms and the burst of Massachusetts’ retail cannabis bubble.

From 2021 to the summer of 2023, I reported from Western Massachusetts on the Pioneer Valley and the city of Northampton, a community with a passionate and informed citizenry that finds itself ever on the front lines of progressive national issues, drawing attention from well outside its borders.

Among this work was a series of feature stories on the local Veterans Affairs hospital, a rural facility essential to thousands of Western Massachusetts service veterans, that was threatened with closure by federal officials. My reporting captured how a shuttered hospital would upend the lives of many older, physically challenged veterans who had come to rely on the medical center. Under heavy pressure, elected officials moved to block the hospital's closure. Last year, my stories were credited with helping reverse the hospital's fortunes and won a Publick Occurrences Award from the New England Newspaper & Press Association.

Northampton made headlines in 2018 when it became home to the first recreational cannabis dispensary east of Colorado. But in the years following, the local retail marijuana industry grew far beyond that first shop. By the four year anniversary of legal retail cannabis in Northampton, the population of dispensaries rivaled the much-larger cities of Boston and Worcester. My reporting brought attention to the largely-unchecked growth of cannabis in Northampton and drove conversation and government regulation as city leaders moved to rein in the ballooning industry.
